इस सूर्यग्रहण की कंकणाकृति सम्पूर्ण अफ़्रीका, उत्तरी श्रीलंका, द-पू बांगलादेश तथा भारतके के सुदूर दक्षिण भाग – रामेश्‍वरम्‌, कन्याकुमारी तथा तिरुवनन्तपुरम्‌ (केरल, तामिलनाडू के दक्षिणी भागों में) आदि कुछ नगरों में ही दिखाई देगा।

शेष सारे भारत में यह सूर्यग्रहण खण्डग्रास रुप में ही दिखाई देगा।

पृथ्वी पर इस कंकण ग्रहण का प्रारम्भ इस प्रकार होगा -

ग्रहण प्रारम्भ          :   9.35 IST

ग्रास प्रारम्भ           :   10.48 IST

ग्रास समाप्त            :   14.25 IST

ग्रहण समाप्त          :    15.38 IST

The annular solar eclipse of January 15, 2010 will be visible across Africa, the Indian Ocean, India, Sri Lanka, and south-east Asia. The annular phase runs from 05:13:54 UT (India – Local Time 10:43:54 AM) , when the eclipse begins in the Central African Republic, to the end of the eclipse on the Chinese Yellow Sea coast at 08:59:01 UT ( India – Local Time 2:29:01 PM ). The maximum eclipse is at 07:06:31 UT, when the annular phase will last just over 11 minutes.

The partial eclipse will be visible over eastern Africa, south-east Europe, the Middle East, and south-east Asia between 04:05:26 UT ( India – Local Time 9:35:26 AM ) and 10:07:33 UT ( India – Local Time 3:37:33 PM ).

The eclipse will first be seen in south of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and then travel obliquely to Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi, where it will enjoy the best view. It will then travel to Kerala and end in Mizoram in the northeast.

The annular eclipse will be visible from Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Tuticorin, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Rajapalayam, Sivaganga, Karikudi, Pudukottai, Nagapatinam, Tanjavur.

The maximum duration of annularity would reach 11 min 08 sec over Indian Ocean thus making it the longest annular eclipse.

The difference between a total solar eclipse and annular one is, that during a total solar eclipse the sun will be fully covered by the moon whereas during an annular one, sun would not be fully covered and “one will be able to see the sun like a thin ring around the black moon.

SUTAK

Sutak of Surya Grahan will start just before 12 hours from the starting local time of Solar eclipse of 15 January 2010.

for Delhi, Sutak will start from 11.53 PM (IST) of 14 January 2010 and will last till 3.11 PM of 15 Jan 2010.
