Thoughtfulness for others

draupadi-chirharan.gifOnce Draupadi was bathing in the river Yamuna. She noticed that there was a saint who was also taking bath nearby in the river. A gush of wind came and unfortunately the loincloth of the saint lying on the bank fell into the river and was washed away with current. The saint did not know what to do. How could he get back to his hermitage without the loincloth? He slipped out of the river and hid in some shrubs near the bank of the river. Draupadi noticed the predicament of the saint. She went near the shrubs, tore a part of her sari and gave it to him to use as a loincloth. The saint was extremly grateful for his act of thoughtfulness. He blessed her in his thoughts.

When Draupadi was  brought to Duryodhana’s assembly to be publicly insulted by pulling off her clothes, she called out to God (Shri Krishna) for protection. God immediately thought of Draupadi’s thoughtfulness when the saint was in similar situation. God immediately converted the little piece of her sari into an endless sari that protected Draupadi. In this way, God protected her modesty.

“There is no religion better than thoughtfulness of others.”
