The four dogs of Dattatreya are the embodiments of the four Vedas. महायोगीश्वर दत्तात्रेयजी भगवान्‌ विष्णुके अवतार हैं। इनका अवतरण मार्गशीर्ष पूर्णिमाको प्रदोषकाल में हुआ था। अत: इस दिन बडे समारोहसे दत्तजयन्तीका उत्सव मनाया जाता है । Behind the Lord Dattatreya is the cow named Kamadhenu. This divine cow grants the wishes and desires of all those who seek the Lord. गिरनारक्षेत्र् श्री दत्तात्रेयजी का सिद्धपीठ् है। इनकी चरणपादुकाएँ वाराणसी तथा आबूपर्वत् आदि कई स्थानों पर् हैं।

According to religious texts, it is customary to circumambulate the fire four times. However, many priests now have it done seven times, confusing this with saptpadi, which is separate rite. This ceremony fulfils religious aspects of the marriage and is symbolic of the irrevocable faith a couple must have in each other.

Ganga Mahaotsav is a 5-day festival, held on the banks of Ganga in Varanasi, is celebrated every year from Prabodhani Ekadashi to Kartik Purnima (This year from Sun, 6 Nov 2011 to Thu, 10 Nov 2011). The festival celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Varanasi.

No Vedic worship or Yajna can be performed without recitation of Purush Sukta. It may require greater understanding the science of cosmos to arrive at the true significance.
